PE Curriculum at St Edward’s
Intent
‘‘Intelligence and skill can only function at the peak of their capacity when the body is healthy and strong’’. John F. Kennedy
At St Edward’s we understand the importance of PE and the role it has to play in promoting long term, healthy lifestyles. Our aim is to develop a love of sport and physical activity in all our children and inspire them to become lifelong active people. Our intent is for our PE curriculum to provide our children with high quality PE and sports provision. We want all children to develop and improve the fundamental skills needed to access all types of physical activity. Children will understand the importance of healthy competition against either themselves (personal best) or other children, the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle and the role that physical activity plays in achieving this. Children will also learn that there are many different types of physical activity and these can take place in different environments. Through PE our aim is for children to develop life skills such as teamwork, perseverance, resilience and gain leadership qualities.
